About
The story behind the code
My Journey
I started programming at age 5 in 1996 when my father introduced me to computers. What began as curiosity quickly became a lifelong passion. My professional career officially began in 2010, but I've been building software for over two decades.
After briefly attending Moorpark College, I relocated to Orange County to work at NCSoft, bringing over two decades of hands-on experience with 15+ years in professional software development. In February 2026 I moved up to the Bay Area, where I'm based now.
Aion Online
I've been a veteran player since 2009. I founded and managed the Zephyr guild with over 1,000 members and pioneered the "Scatter Kiting" technique for Cleric gameplay.
I built several community platforms including Twitch streaming, Zephyr.team, PvP All Day, and MyAion.xyz. I've been semi-retired from the game since 2014.
Filmmaking Background
Coming from a film industry family, I was initially interested in film school and work as a Film Editor before transitioning to software development. This background gave me a unique perspective on storytelling and user experience.
Personal Life
Married to Nicole, I enjoy MMORPGs and strategy games. I co-host the tech night! meetup.
How I Work
When something breaks, I start by identifying the core problem. It's tempting to conflate issues that surface at the same time, but they're often unrelated—treating them as one thing sends you in circles.
When people ask what language they should learn first, my honest answer is that it matters less than they think. Real skill comes from understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your tools, not from mastering any single one.
Current Focus
I'm focused on building scalable architectures and exploring the intersection of AI and traditional software development—particularly vector embeddings and language models for enhancing user experiences.
